38. Noise abatement procedures
In order to protect the noise in residential areas, motorised and utility aircraft may use the traffic pattern in the opposite direction to the residential areas. This method ensures that noise sources are not concentrated above populated areas, thus reducing direct noise exposure.
Flights cannot be planned during low sleep periods.
Demonstration flights and technical flights may not be planned or carried out between 22:00 and 06:00 on working days; between 20:00 and 07:00 on public holidays
Training flights should be grouped so that different exercises follow each other as far as possible, in order to avoid continuous noise exposure in the same populated area.
According to Article 12 (5) of Joint Decree 18/1997 (X. 11.) KJ-IVM-KTM, the following procedures shall apply in order to reduce the noise pollution from ground operations:
Engine idling, the operation of auxiliary power units, the operation of the various filling aggregators and the necessary engine tests following maintenance must be carried out only during the opening hours of the airport. This period shall be from 06:00 to 22:00 on working days and from 07:00 to 20:00 on public holidays. The engine test and idling period shall not exceed 10 minutes.
Outside these periods, i.e. between 22:00 and 06:00 on working days and between 20:00 and 07:00 on public holidays, these types of activities are not allowed in order to reduce noise pollution.
Compliance with noise abatement procedures is not mandatory in the following cases:
- aircraft operations such as emergency humanitarian or emergency search and rescue operations, medical assistance, patient transport and aircraft used for disaster relief
- aircraft involved in state operations, including military, customs, police, fire, law enforcement or national security operations, the restrictions do not apply in the exceptional case where compliance with them would, in the circumstances, jeopardise the safety of the flight. The safety reason shall be shall in all cases be justified by the party invoking it if the aircraft is in an emergency situation
