Runway Direction Forecast

The daily updated runway direction forecast aims to provide information on the expected directions of landings and takeoffs at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport based on expected wind directions.

Aircraft perform takeoffs and landings preferably into the wind. Depending on wind speed and direction, two runway directions are used: 31 and 13. Runway direction 31 means that planes take off and land in a 310-degree, northwesterly direction. In this case, landings occur from the southeast, from Vecsés or Üllő, and takeoffs head northwest towards Budapest.

Direction 13 is the opposite: planes approach from Budapest for landing and depart towards the southeast, Vecsés, or Üllő.

The expected runway directions are determined based on wind forecasts prepared by our meteorologists. Actual runway direction may differ due to limitations of forecasts or unforeseen operational conditions. Despite these, we aim for the most accurate predictions.

Daily updated charts show the probabilities of each runway direction on an hourly basis. Moderate southeastern winds pose the greatest uncertainty as even a 2 km/h forecast inaccuracy can result in a different runway direction.
